
Dr Bernd Hänfling at the University of Hull is the coordinator for sites in the North of England. Bernd’s research group has pioneered eDNA metabarcoding for lake fish communities, working with the UK Environment Agency since 2015.
Dr Kat Bruce and Dr Juliet Jones at NatureMetrics Ltd are the coordinators for sites in the South of England. NatureMetrics was the first UK company to offer commercial eDNA metabarcoding services and is supplying the sampling kits used in England and Norway.
Prof Eric Verspoor is a fish biologist at the University of Highlands and Islands, and his interest in the invasive pink salmon was one of the key drivers for the 1000 Rivers project. Eric coordinates sampling in Scotland.
Dr Jens Carlsson from University College Dublin is the national coordinator for Ireland and also developed the qPCR assay targeting pink salmon (Onchorynchus gorbuscha) that will be used in this project
Dr Frode Fossøy at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) is the national coordinator for Norway
Dr Ian Bradbury at the Department for Fisheries and Oceans Canada is the national coordinator for Canada
Dr Micaela Hellström at AquaBiota Water Research is the national coordinator for Sweden
Dr Gudni Gudbergsson from the Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Research Institute is the national coordinator for Iceland
Dr Guillaume Evanno from INRA is the national coordinator for France
Dr Rein Brys from Institute Natuur en Bosonderzoek (INBO) is the national coordinator for Belgium
Professor Sonia Consuegra from the Swansea University is the national coordinator for Wales
